All running junkies love fall here in the Northeast, because the air’s cool and crisp, the colors are more vibrant than ever, and races abound. It’s a treat to breathe it all in and be overtaken with joy every time we step out the door…
As for racing, there’s no season better than fall. No heat or humidity. Plenty of company. Tons of events, from low key 5Ks to big city marathons to the ultras that take you to an entire new realm…
In the midst of it all, how often do we stop to really appreciate HOW LUCKY WE ARE to be healthy and able to get out and participate in such a basic, natural sport? Probably not often enough…
One simple way we can express our appreciation right now–and be Green about it–is to share our rewards. A great nonprofit organization called MEDALS4METTLE collects race medals and awards them to people who are fighting life debilitating diseases. Think about it: we choose to test ourselves by running marathons, but how many thousands of others are struggling through far greater challenges, every day, just to survive?
In Philadelphia, the lululemon athletica store on 16th and Walnut is collecting medals for this worthy cause throughout November, our hometown marathon month. If you have a medal from a 1/2 or full marathon, a triathlon, or an ultramarathon, why not consider donating it. If you’d like to be a real champ, you can make a cash contribution as well, or instead: M4M puts a special ribbon on each medal it gives to recipients. $3 per medal helps cover the cost. Stop by lulu today.

Here at GreenTreks, we’re constantly reviewing our library of award-winning programming for footage and soundbites for new projects, and for segments that can get kids excited about the environment for incorporation into EcoExpress. What we haven’t been great at doing is retooling our stuff for our dedicated web users, let alone for those who are interested in high quality DVDs for use in classrooms, Boardrooms, or home…
We’re a small staff who are flat out busy, but we can promise you, making the best of our programs more readily available is making its way to the top of our “Gotta Do” list.
